AEA Program Co-chair: October 2009 to October 2011
The American Evaluation Association is seeking nominations for a volunteer leader to serve for two years (October 2009 to October 2011) as the Program Co-chair for the AEA/CDC Summer Evaluation Institute.AEA jointly convenes a training program each summer with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to provide professional development for evaluators and for those for whom evaluation is part of their work obligations. The AEA/CDC Summer Evaluation Institute is held each June in Atlanta and brings together 500-600 delegates for 3 days of training. Program Co-chair: The AEA/CDC Summer Evaluation Institute AEA Program Co-chair represents the interest of AEA in Institute planning, works collaboratively with the CDC Program Co-chair and the AEA Executive Director to develop an outstanding professional development program, and serves as co-host on site at the Institute. In addition, the Co-chairs together serve as the facilitators for the Institute Advisory Council discussion list.
The work of the position is conducted via phone and email and takes approximately 2-4 hours per month primarily during the period December to June, plus time on site at the Institute. The AEA Institute Program Co-chair receives a waived Institute registration and orientation from the current Co-chairs and AEA Executive Director.
Criteria for Selection: The AEA Institute Program Co-chair will be selected based on the following criteria:
1. experience with the AEA/CDC Summer Evaluation Institute either as an attendee or as a presenter,
2. knowledge of the breadth and depth of the field and the professional development needs of evaluators,
3. breadth of professional network,
4. commitment to the success of the AEA/CDC Summer Evaluation Institute,
5. willingness and capacity to work collaboratively as part of a co-chair relationship,
6. vision for the event that aligns with AEA’s Mission, Vision, and Values and demonstrates an understanding of the collaborative and co-constructed nature of the Institute and the CDC partnership.
Location: Ideally, the Co-chair is located in the Atlanta region in order to build upon her or his professional network to encourage participation in the event. However, this is not a requirement.
Exclusion: Because the Institute is co-chaired by AEA and CDC, with one co-chair identified by and representing each group, the AEA Institute Program Co-chair may not be employed by or a dedicated contractor of CDC, due to a conflict of interest.
Availability: Finally, she or he must be available to serve as chair for the period September 2009 to September 2011 including attending the 2010 and 2011 Institutes.
