EVALUATION 2006 TRAVEL INFORMATION

The following resources are provided to assist you as you make your plans to travel to and from, and secure discounted accommodations for, Evaluation 2006.

AIRPORT

  • The primary airport serving Portland, Oregon is the Portland International Airport (see http://www.flypdx.com/). The abbreviation for Portland International Airport is PDX. PDX is serviced by all major carriers, as well as a number of smaller carriers that include JetBlue and Southwest.

GETTING TO AND FROM PORTLAND INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
Please note that the information provided, including fees, was checked as of August 2006. However, we cannot guarantee the accuracy of the items below and encourage you to investigate further as needed.

  • By Taxi: Taxi pickup is outside the baggage claim area, across the access roadway. Taxis cost from approximately $35 to $45 into the city and it usually takes from 20 to 30 minutes, depending on traffic conditions.

  • By MAX light rail: Portland's popular and clean light rail system goes from the airport terminal to within 1/4 mile of the downtown conference hotels. Go past baggage claim #2 to the light rail lobby where you will find ticket machines (there are also machines outside). Purchase a ticket ($1.25) and continue out through the doors to the rail station. Get off at the "Mall/SW 5th Ave" stop. We recommend looking at the map at /eval2006/aea06.portland_local.htm that was prepared by the local arrangements team to identify the location of the stop as it relates to your hotel. The light rail runs every 15 minutes from approximately 5:00 am to midnight, seven days a week and takes from 45 minutes to an hour.

  • By Rental Car: Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, and Hertz have rental counters and cars located in the airport, while Alamo, National, and Thrifty have counters at the airport, but they shuttle you for car pickup off site. (Please see driving directions from the airport below).

  • Driving: Because we are using multiple hotels for accommodations for the conference, we are connecting you with each hotel's driving directions below as each will be slightly different:

HOTELS

This year, the conference will be held in the heart of Portland with sessions at the Hilton, the Hilton Towers, and the Heathman hotels and accommodations at the Hiltons, the Heathman, and the Paramount. Located within easy walking distance of one another, the distances among these hotels are as close as walking from one end to the other of last year's huge single property.

AEA has secured discounted conference rates at each hotel and we are excited to be able to offer such a range of accommodations for 2006. The hotels will honor the discounted rates, based on availability, for three days before and after the conference. Please consider staying the week and taking advantage of all that Portland has to offer! Stay tuned to this page for more information from our local arrangements team regarding things to do and see in Portland.

Hotel Update - September 18: As of September 18, all room blocks at the conference hotels listed below are reported as sold out. While we will be looking for another room block, we have not been able to identify one at this time. You may wish to call the hotels listed below to confirm that there has not been a cancellation. If you are seeking a hotel, we recommend that you go to http://www.pova.com/hotelmap/map.php to review the Visitor's Association map of downtown hotels (the headquarters hotel, the Hilton, is at numbers 20 and 21) and then use a hotel service such as www.hotels.com to select and book a hotel - or contact any of the hotels directly. Some alternate hotels do have small numbers of room available, simply not enough to book a full conference block. Please note that AEA cannot recommend individual hotels beyond those that are listed below as we have not had the opportunity to visit and review them.
